| When | What is photographed | Why it is placed there |
|---|---|---|
| Before guests | The room, the table, the flowers, the cake | The set the venue will use afterwards too |
| Arrival | Greetings, coats, first drinks | Candid, available light |
| The toast | Fixed position, agreed in advance | It happens once |
| The cake | Close and wide, both | Ask the venue to keep the lights up for it |
| Later | Dancing, groups, the room full | Slower shutter, more movement |

A venue that dims the lights to almost nothing.
Nobody telling the photographer when the cake is coming.
Expecting flash-free results in a very dark room.
