Mariya's verdict. Book the location before the guests. Changing a date is easy, changing a permit is not.

Inside the church

Every church sets its own rule, and the officiant has the final word.

Ask before the day whether photographs are allowed during the service and where you may stand.

A fast lens and a quiet camera cover the rest. No flash, no moving about.

Afterwards there are twenty minutes when everyone is still together. That is when the family portraits happen, and it needs one person to gather people.

How the hours actually run

WhenWhat is photographedWhy it is placed there
Before the serviceThe church, the gown, the family arrivingQuiet, wide, no flash
The serviceFrom one position agreed with the officiantLong lens, no movement, no flash
Immediately afterFamily groups, while everyone is still togetherTwenty minutes, and it needs a list
The gatheringThe room, the cake, the grandparentsAvailable light, close frames

The order matters more than the length. A shoot that starts in the wrong place never catches up.

What you need to arrange

Permission from the officiant, agreed before the day.

A list of the family groups you want.

One person who can call people by name.

The address of the gathering afterwards, and its timing.

What usually goes wrong

Assuming the church allows photography during the service.

Letting everyone leave before the group photographs.

Booking too short a window, so the gathering is missed.

Flash in a small church, which changes the atmosphere completely.

What arrives afterwards

Around sixty edited images including the group portraits.

A private gallery the family can share.

Files sized for prints and albums.
